Watchmaking and Repair School

As a watchmaking school or watch repair school, Gem City College is dedicated to our students’ development. Our watchmaking program is designed to give the student an understanding of practical watch work.

It is our goal to prepare each graduate for the demands of customer service. We recognize that the number of trained technicians, or watchmakers, in the United States continues to decline. At the same time, available craftsmen are not able to meet all of the needs of the suppliers, technical operations, and jewelry and watch establishments. That’s where Gem City College comes in.

Our watchmaking school’s training program is recognized throughout the United States as a much-needed industry leader. Our graduates can be found throughout the nation in jewelry stores, watch repair shops, and in all areas of the watchmaking industry.

Watch Technician Training

Gem City College watchmaking school students learn hand and eye coordination, which is essential to this profession. Each student learns how to order parts, disassemble watches, clean mechanisms, and reassemble watches. Lathe work, making a staff and stem, and repairing automatics are some of the areas of additional study in our watch repair school. Advanced watch repair training includes areas of chronographs, theory of hairsprings, watch escapement, and basic mechanical skills.

For additional information regarding the Watchmaking and Repair Program, please see pages 16 and 20 of the course catalog located on the Horology Home Page.
