WHO MAY PROFIT FROM A GEM CITY COLLEGE HOME STUDY COURSE

The jeweler. The Engraving Course, the Diamond Setting Course, and the Clock Repairing Course are ideal for the jeweler who wishes to expand the services he or she can offer customers, but who is not able to attend classes. The jeweler who is skilled in hand engraving, clock repairing, or diamond setting can attract more customers and bring higher profits to the business.

The person who wants part-time work. Many people supplement their income by doing watch and clock repairing or engraving on a part-time basis. Engraving is a particularly valuable skill for the part-time worker because many jewelers have not been trained in hand engraving. So, items requiring engraving are taken to persons skilled in the art. Also, fine gift stores often refer their customers to engravers who can personalize trays or plaques or mugs. The opportunities for part-time work are numerous and limited only by the ambition and imagination of the individual.

The hobbiest. A Home Study Course can be the start of a fascinating (and profitable) hobby for the teenager, the retired person, and all those in between. Individuals who enjoy working with their hands, who want to understand precision instrumentation, who like to apply their imagination to the creation of beautiful workmanship, will find watch repairing, clock repairing or engraving to be a rewarding activity.

PERSONAL ATTENTION EXPERT TEACHING FACULTY

These home study programs emphasize the practical. Students learn the skills necessary to do their work completely. Nothing extra is added to lengthen the course. A step-by-step training method is utilized in which projects are assigned to the student in an order of advancing difficulty. The skills learned in early lessons are applied in later projects. Students gain a working knowledge of the subject since they are truly learning by doing.

Each lesson in the GCC home study program is made up on text material, a self-check test and a practical job assignment. When students have completed a job assignment, they return it to the school for correction, evaluation, and comments by the instructor. Thus, the instructor can spot both strengths and areas in which more work is needed while the student progresses through the training. Instructors will suggest ways for the students to overcome difficulties and answer any questions about the work. Students receive careful, personal attention from their instructor. The instructors engaged in the GCC Home Study Program are experts in their fields. The classroom teaching experience makes them well acquainted with the types of problems commonly encountered by beginning students. Also they have had experience working in their own jewelry and watch repair businesses, so they know the practical problems which face professional jewelers.

They also should have good eyesight (with or without glasses).
