The School of Horology uses a system of individual instruction and step-by-step method of training. Each course is set up as a series of projects. These projects are arranged so that the knowledge and skill attained in each assignment will be utilized to complete the following assignments. The instructors work with each student individually and assist them to progress as fast as their diligence, aptitude and ability will permit. However, each project must be completed to the satisfaction of both the teacher and the student before advancement to the next stage of training is undertaken. Many of the students who enter the School of Horology have had no previous experience with watchmaking or jewelry, and they must begin with the most elementary phases of study. Those who have had some jewelry store experience may have an advantage in understanding the work and will, therefore, complete the requirements in less time. Care is taken that the instruction is thorough
and complete. The individual learns not merely by doing the assigned
work, but by doing each assignment well. It must be demonstrated to
the satisfaction of the instructor that the student has achieved the
skill necessary to the performance of the course work before being allowed
to graduate.. Through this individual method of instruction, the student
develops a high standard of craftsmanship and is thoroughly prepared
to enter the watchmaking and jewelry profession.
